Description and Details

This small Italian ciselé velvet fragment is dated to around 1575–1625. It measures approximately 7.5 × 10 cm and shows a geometric pattern in deep olive green.

The velvet has a silk pile on a woven silk foundation. The cut-and-uncut technique gives the design a subtle relief and variation in texture.

A compact example of late Renaissance to early Baroque weaving, offered for close study.
