Circa 1915. Slubby white linen with a deep cotton filet crochet border of Art Nouveau roses and scrolling vines. Scalloped sides and stepped corners. Measures 130cm square. Excellent, crisp condition.
An antique square linen tablecloth, circa 1915, with a deep hand-crocheted border of stylised roses and scrolling Art Nouveau vines. The white linen centre has a pronounced slubbed texture and is framed by a fine band of drawn-thread hemstitching.
Worked in fine cotton thread using filet crochet, the border combines large rose blossoms with flowing whiplash stems. Its distinctive castellated outline has deep scallops along the sides and stepped rectangular projections at all four corners, giving the cloth an unusually bold silhouette.
In excellent, crisp condition, with no broken stitches, loose loops or storage staining. The cloth measures 130cm square.
Good for my sewing projects thank you. Its nice to still get some Nottingham lace. I have family heritage with Nottingham lace-my great grandfather x3 part owned one of the lace factories in Nottingham.
