Circa 1915. White linen centre with ladder hemstitching and a wide hand-knitted lace border. Measures 111cm square. Light silvery-grey toning to the lace; no breaks, loose loops or fraying.
An antique square tablecloth, circa 1915, with a plain-weave white linen centre and a particularly wide hand-knitted lace border. A band of ladder hemstitching frames the linen, providing a simple transition to the more elaborate lace.
The knitted border combines geometric diamond lattices, openwork chevrons and stylised eyelet foliage, finishing in pointed sawtooth edges. At the corners, the pattern opens into radiating fan-shaped sections, allowing the border to turn neatly around the cloth.
The lace has a light silvery-grey tone characteristic of antique textile storage. It is in immaculate structural condition, with no breaks, loose loops or fraying. The cloth measures 111cm square.
Good for my sewing projects thank you. Its nice to still get some Nottingham lace. I have family heritage with Nottingham lace-my great grandfather x3 part owned one of the lace factories in Nottingham.
