A boxed set of 12 spools of Sajou Fil au Chinois Lin Glacé No.40 — a traditional French waxed linen thread with a history stretching back to the nineteenth century — presented in a coordinated selection of dark, muted tones.
The colours in this box are: n°115 pale grey, n°174 very dark grey, n°180 black, n°195 dark brown, n°205 havana, n°250 beige, n°282 gabardine, n°308 ecru, n°470 dark red, n°650 navy blue, n°848 yellow green, and n°894 dark green.
Lin Glacé — meaning glazed or waxed linen — is a twisted 3-ply linen thread that passes through a bath of starch and beeswax before being brushed and stretched. Because the wax is absorbed into the thread rather than sitting on the surface, there is no stickiness, while the thread becomes smooth, lightly rigid, and very resistant, with a characteristic sheen. At No.40, the thread measures approximately 0.5mm in diameter and is an exceptionally versatile weight for fine hand sewing.
Each spool contains 30 metres of No.40 waxed linen thread. This weight is particularly well suited to bookbinding, headbanding, leatherwork, jewellery and bead work, buttonholes, and any heritage craft requiring a strong, durable natural thread. Having twelve colours to hand makes colour matching effortless across projects.
