A Sajou Museum & Heritage cross stitch chart inspired by one of the most extraordinary surviving textiles of the French Revolution — a tapestry worked in petit point by Marie-Antoinette and Madame Élisabeth, youngest sister of Louis XVI.
The tapestry was sewn in fragments during their imprisonment: first at the Tuileries, and later at the Temple prison between June 1791 and August 1792. The pieces were separated after their deaths, and it was only during the reign of Louis XVIII that the Duchess of Angoulême — Marie-Antoinette's own daughter — gathered all the fragments together and had a border added to unite them.
To stitch this chart is to follow in those same careful footsteps.
The motif is 347 stitches wide by 266 stitches high. Worked on 12 count linen, the finished cushion measures approximately 57.8 x 44.3cm. The full-colour chart is printed on two 60 x 28cm sheets and comes in a Sajou decorative sleeve.
