A beautiful boxed Sajou cross stitch kit to embroider a cushion inspired by the Empress Joséphine’s legendary passion for roses.
Joséphine cultivated both botanical species in sumptuous flowerbeds and horticultural varieties in pots at Malmaison, and her rose garden became the stuff of myth — immortalised in the exquisite illustrations of Pierre-Joseph Redouté’s Les Roses. Her devotion to the flower extended to her wardrobe. Laure Junot, Duchess of Abrantès, recalled seeing her in “a dress of white crêpe, dotted with rose leaves most pleasantly fresh. I had never seen, so to speak, something so fragrant as this dress which, moreover, could only be worn once.” A dress worn only once, made of fresh roses. That is very Joséphine.
The motif measures 180 x 180 stitches, giving a finished cushion size of approximately 30 x 30 cm.
The kit includes:
Full-colour pattern chart printed on one 60 x 28 cm sheet, with all necessary instructions
One 35 x 25 cm piece of pearl grey embroidery linen
100% cotton backing fabric, 35 x 25 cm
9 cards of Retors du Nord embroidery thread: 2004, 2005, 2016, 2023, 2028, 2034, 2038, 2749 and 2876
A Sajou ‘Créé par moi’ (Made by me) label
