Description and Details

A DMC cross stitch kit to recreate Frida Kahlo’s The Frame — a 1938 self-portrait painted in Mexico and acquired by the Louvre, making Kahlo the first Mexican artist to have a work purchased by that institution.

The painting is a riot of vivid colour: Kahlo in the centre, flanked by flowers and birds painted directly onto glass in the traditional Mexican retablo style, her expression as direct and unflinching as always. Kahlo’s work is inseparable from her life — her Mexican identity, her physical suffering, her passionate nature — and The Frame is one of her most joyful and decorative works, its luminous colours and folk-art influences making it particularly well suited to the rich texture of cross stitch in Mouliné Spécial threads.

The finished embroidery measures approximately 24.9 x 35.5 cm.

The kit includes:

  • 132 m of Mouliné Spécial® threads on an organiser
  • 1 x 14-count Aida fabric, 40 x 48 cm (100% cotton)
  • 1 x embroidery needle
  • Instructions in English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch and Japanese

You will find the companion Frame bookmark kit and the full range of DMC art cross stitch kits in my shop.
