A DMC cross stitch kit to recreate Henri Matisse’s The Goldfish — one of the most joyful and luminous works in his celebrated series of goldfish paintings, produced in the spring and early summer of 1912.

The canvas is everything Matisse does best: an explosion of pure colour, an almost childlike delight in the vibrancy of the visible world, and a composition that draws the eye irresistibly inward to the bowl of brilliantly lit fish at its centre. Matisse was one of the great Fauvist masters, and The Goldfish is Fauvism at its most exuberant. Rendered in cross stitch on 14-count Aida, it makes a wonderful piece to stitch and a beautiful thing to frame.

The finished embroidery measures 23 x 35.6 cm.
