A box of 12 vintage style capsules in modern, bright colours, each containing 50 meters of Fil au Chinois twisted waxed linen thread. This thread is a 3 ply thread with a diameter of approximately 0.45 mm and has a z twist.
It is an excellent choice of thread for sewing heavy fabrics, button holes and snaps and for many traditional and modern crafts such as; light leather work, Jewellery making, book binding. knotting, braiding and beadwork. It is also an excellent thread for artistic free hand embroidery, as it gives a beautiful and unusual quality of line.
Like all Fil au Chinois threads, this thread is lightly waxed. The thread is passed through a bath of starch and bee's wax before twisting. Because the wax does not sit on the surface of the thread there is no stickiness, the threads have a nice sheen and are resistant to fraying.
The capsules are an old and traditional way of keeping threads, they keep the thread neat and prevent the thread unravelling helping to prevent any wastage.
This was the one place I was able to obtain cotton lace that matched the lace on the families traditional christening gown. It arrived in Australia in time to complete the gown. Very happy with quality and service
