A beautiful boxed Sajou cross stitch kit to make a cushion inspired by the fabric of the Queen’s Bedchamber at the Petit Trianon — Marie-Antoinette’s private retreat within the Versailles estate, and in many ways the truest expression of her taste.
While the Palace of Versailles demanded grandeur, the Petit Trianon was Marie-Antoinette’s own domain: bucolic, intimate, and deliberately charming. The bedchamber fabric — rose bouquets and cornflowers on white — is everything Versailles is not. It was the covering for the famous ‘wheat-ear furniture’ created by the celebrated cabinet-maker Georges Jacob, and was embroidered by Marie-Olivier Defarges of Lyon. This kit is an evocation of that fabric, translated into cross stitch.
The motif measures 347 x 266 stitches, giving a finished cushion size of approximately 57.8 x 43 cm on 12-count linen.
The kit includes:
Full-colour pattern chart printed on two 60 x 28 cm sheets
12-count off-white embroidery linen, 70 x 50 cm
100% cotton backing fabric, 70 x 55 cm
13 cards of Retors du Nord embroidery thread: 2023 x 3, 2033, 2180, 2409 x 2, 2443, 2445 x 2, 2535, 2536
A Sajou ‘Créé par moi’ (Made by me) label
