12 Antique Irish linen damask napkins with a simple traditional neoclassical style of damask with a geometric border and polka dots to the centre of the napkins.
The napkins are embroidered in red to the corners with the letter R.
The napkins are all in excellent used condition, there are a couple of small holes to a couple of the napkins as seen in the photos. There are a further 3 napkins that have damage and mends, but are included in the sale for spares and repairs as seen in the photos.
The red embroidered R stands for Raglan, these linens came from the Raglan family.
This set most likely was owned by Field Marshal FitzRoy James Henry Somerset, 1st Baron Raglan, GCB, PC (30 September 1788 – 28 June 1855) who in 1854 famously gave the orders to Lord Lucan at the Battle of Balaclava to lead the charge of the Light Brigade.
The napkins measure 24 x 23.5 inches/ 61 x 59.5 cm.
. Two of the napkins are missing the embroidered R but instead have Raglan name tapes.
