An antique Arts and Crafts period hand embroidered Jacobean needlepoint bench seat cover.
The embroidery is beautifully worked in the Tudor style and the design consists of three cartouches, each end cartouche shows flowers, the centre cartouche shows a dog chasing a hare.
The seat cover shows previous mountings but the wool and ground are both in excellent condition, with no fading to the wool. The seat cover would benefit from being blocked for display of mounting, as seen in the photos the embroidery has pulled the ground slightly diagonally.
The measurements of the seat cover (including the ground) are; 213 x 54.5 cm/ 84 x 21.5 inches, the worked area of the seat cover measures; 162.5 x 36 cm/ 64 x 14.25 inches.
