A beautiful pair of antique Irish linen Oxford style pillow slips with hand made bobbin lace inserts and hand embroidered whitework flowers. The hems feature drawn thread work, and the construction is entirely hand stitched with hand worked buttonholes and mother of pearl buttons to the back opening. Both slips are in excellent, near mint condition and measure 96.5 x 53.5 cm (38 x 21 inches).
A pair of antique pillow slips in smooth white Irish linen, circa 1915. They are generously sized at 96.5 × 53.5 cm (38 × 21 inches), so they will take a modern King-size pillow. Each slip is inlaid with hand-made continuous bobbin lace: large L-shaped corner cartouches and a matching central diamond medallion, the lace worked with spider-wheel and grid mesh fillings. Around the lace are hand-embroidered whitework sprays of satin-stitch flower buds.
The slips are Oxford in style, with a drawn-thread hemstitched edge, and the construction is entirely hand stitched. Each back opening has a wide closure placket with hand-worked buttonholes and the original carved mother-of-pearl buttons.
Both slips are in excellent, near-mint condition. The linen is bright and strong, the lace sits at an even tension with no broken bars, fraying, or pulling away from the ground, and the embroidery is intact. All the mother-of-pearl buttons are present, and I can find no storage stains, yellowing or thinning.
Good for my sewing projects thank you. Its nice to still get some Nottingham lace. I have family heritage with Nottingham lace-my great grandfather x3 part owned one of the lace factories in Nottingham.
