A pair of antique Irish linen pillow cases dating from the early 1800's monogramed with the initials Y R.
The pillow cases have an unusual, and very beautiful example of hand worked East Midlands Bobbin lace, worked in cotton to the openings.
The whitework embroidery is minutely and expertly worked with padded, raised areas, and inserts of hand worked needle lace to the embroidery
The pillow cases are entirely hand stitched in construction, the opening to the side has hand worked button holes and hand worked linen covered metal buttons, of which only one remains intact on one of the pillow cases.
Both pillow cases are in excellent, near mint condition and measure; 76.5 x 50.5 cm/ 30 x 19.75 inches.
