Art Deco Irish Linen Tablecloth with Hand-Painted & Embroidered Roses

Description and Details

An unusual Irish linen tablecloth from the 1930s, combining hand embroidery with painted details in a stylised Art Deco rose design. One half of each leaf is tinted with pale green textile paint, an interesting contrast of colour and technique.

The embroidery combines satin stitch, chain stitch and stem stitch in tangerine orange, saffron yellow, forest green and chocolate brown. The edge of the cloth is framed with a stepped, scalloped border with closely spaced, radiating rows of orange running stitches.

In immaculate, crisp condition, with no fading, stains or thread loss. The cloth measures 128cm square (approximately 50 inches).
