Description and Details

A magnificent large Sajou boxed cross stitch kit celebrating the history of the Château de Chenonceau — one of the most beautiful and history-laden of all the Loire châteaux, and one with an unusually strong female story at its heart.

The chart is richly detailed: portraits of some of Chenonceau’s famous female inhabitants, repeat motifs drawn from the textiles in the château’s rooms, symbols and flags relating to the history of the castle, and a silhouette of its distinctive architecture spanning the River Cher. The reverse of the chart carries historical notes and full stitching instructions. Four small cardboard discs are included for mounting the ladies’ portraits as medallions.

The motif measures 345 x 344 stitches, giving a finished size of approximately 57.5 x 57 cm on 12-count linen. The embroidery represents approximately 215 hours of stitching.

Note: a small error crept into the pattern instructions regarding the Green Room — it should read moss linen, not lime tree. The kit includes moss linen, so you have everything you need.

The kit includes:

  • A 68 x 80 cm chart printed on matt paper
  • A 70 cm square of slate-coloured linen
  • 14 cm squares in moss, mustard, azalea and Sajou blue, plus four 14 cm squares of black linen
  • 31 colours of Retors du Nord thread: 2000, 2005, 2009, 2016, 2017, 2022, 2023, 2028, 2032, 2037, 2040, 2086 x 2, 2196, 2221, 2223, 2234, 2263, 2266, 2332, 2340, 2348, 2447, 2449, 2479, 2491, 2549, 2570, 2749, 2838, 2876
  • A cocoon of Caudry thread no. 3100
  • Four 7 cm diameter cardboard discs for mounting the portrait medallions

You will find the companion François I Room cushion kit, the Chenonceau charts, and other Museum & Heritage designs in my shop.
