Description and Details

A matching set of eight large French linen damask dinner napkins, circa 1910, of the type made for a wedding trousseau. The lustrous white linen is woven with floral garlands and swags in a late 18th-century style.

Each napkin has a heavily padded, hand-embroidered double BB monogram, worked in satin stitch to give a pronounced raised finish. Oval fields of hand-pulled openwork, known as jours, are integrated into the damask design, their fine grids contrasting with the solid woven motifs and raised embroidery.

The set is in pristine, crisp condition, with white linen and no thinning, stains or thread loss. Each napkin measures 73.5cm square.
