Description and Details

This unused antique Irish linen damask tablecloth is a beautiful heritage piece with a romantic botanical theme. The damask is woven with roses and fern foliage, giving a soft tone on tone pattern that catches the light in the classic way antique Irish damask is loved for. The layout is balanced and traditional, so it looks elegant on the table while still feeling richly decorative.

A narrow geometric border runs around the edge, framing the cloth neatly without overpowering the floral damask. Roses and fern motifs sit to the edges and corners, while the centre features a wreath of roses and ferns. Between the borders and the central wreath, single fern leaves provide gentle visual spacing and continuity, a detail that shows careful design rather than mass production.

The cloth came to Penelope Textiles unused and has not been laundered, which means the linen remains crisp and the damask definition is sharp. As is common with linens stored folded for decades, there are faint storage marks on the outer folds shown in the photos. These are from storage rather than wear and should remove with a gentle soak and careful laundering. Overall condition is listed as excellent, making this ideal for collectors, period interiors, or anyone who wants to use true heritage linen for special dining.

Measuring 184 x 179 cm (72 x 70.5 inches), it is a generous near square size suitable for many dining tables, sideboards, or display settings. It also lends itself to heritage textile repurposing such as cushion panels or framed damask if you prefer to preserve antique linen in new ways.
