Sajou Fil au Chinois Gros Bis is one of the oldest threads in the Fil au Chinois range — a waxed ecru linen thread whose name says exactly what it is: gros bis simply means “thick ecru thread.”

It is an undyed, natural linen thread, waxed through the traditional Fil au Chinois process — passed through a bath of starch and beeswax so that the wax is absorbed into the thread rather than sitting on the surface. The result is a smooth, strong, and very resistant thread with no stickiness and a subtle sheen.

Because it is entirely undyed, Gros Bis is food safe — it is the traditional string for tying up roasts — and is equally useful in the garden, the craft room, and the workshop. It is well suited to DIY, gardening, bookbinding, bracelet making, bead threading, and the standing rigging of sailing ship models.

Available in three sizes — the lower the number, the thicker the thread:
No.8 — 1.05mm diameter
No.12 — 0.95mm diameter
No.16 — 0.80mm diameter

Each ball contains 30 metres of thread.
