Description and Details

This beautiful Linen 'Scotch Holland'' blind fabric is handwoven in Scotland by a specialist historic textile weaver using traditional techniques in order to replicate a swatch of fabric from 1914. This fabric has been used for making some of the blinds at Hill Top,- Beatrix Potters House, now owned by The National Trust.

Originating from Glasgow, Scottish Holland blind fabric has been produced for creating roller blinds since the 1770's.

One side of the linen his highly polished using a calendering process, which draws the cellulose to the surface of the linen which deflects ultraviolet light whilst still allowing a good amount of light.

In order to make a ‘Scotch Holland’ roller blind, simply cut the fabric to size allowing enough length to create a pocket to hold a wooden batten at the bottom of the blind. Hand sew side hems with herringbone stitch to prevent fraying, sew pocket for batten, insert batten. Use small tacks to secure top of fabric to a round wooden batten.

The fabric weighs approximately 290 grams per meter

This fabric is also available with a red stripe, please see my other listings.

If you order more than more than a meter it will be sent as a continuous length.

Materials: Handwoven, Linen, Calendered.
