A pair of Sajou gilded Ball tipped 'Boutis' embroidery scissors.
One of the blades on these scissors has a rounded blade, which is important for some sewing and embroidery techniques that require cutting through just one layer of fabric. Traditionally, scissors such as these were used for making the Provencal Boutis quilts.
Boutis is a Provencal word meaning 'stuffing'which is how the raised effects of this technique is achieved,
The scissors measure 9 cm long and are made in Nogent, France the traditional region of scissor making.

Sajou was created in 1828 by Jaques- Simon Sajou, selling haberdashery for embroidery, tapestry, lace, crochet and weaving. His pattern albums are sought after to this day by collectors worldwide. In 2005 the Sajou brand was purchased and revived by avid collector; Frederique Crestin- Billet. Many of the old designs have been faithfully reproduced and there are some new designs that have been added in the Sajou style.
