Description and Details
A Sajou boxed embroidery kit to make a cushion inspired by the panels found in the Queen's Bedchamber in Versailles Palace.
The panels are known as The Queens brocade as they were woven specifically for Marie Antoinette. They are made of a heavy taffeta known as 'gros de tours' and are decorated with flowers, ribbons and peacock feathers and was used as “summer furniture” being used only from spring to autumn.
The original fabric was lost after the Revolution and was re-woven in the 20th Century by Maison Lamy & Gautier, according to the model woven in Lyons in 1786-1787, based on a design attributed to Jean François Bony.
Size of motif: 348 stitches wide by 259 stitches high.
When embroidered on 12 count (per cm) linen, the finished project measures 58 x 44.2 cm.

Sajou was created in 1828 by Jaques- Simon Sajou, selling haberdashery for embroidery, tapestry, lace, crochet and weaving. His pattern albums are sought after to this day by collectors worldwide. In 2005 the Sajou brand was purchased and revived by avid collector; Frederique Crestin- Billet. Many of the old designs have been faithfully reproduced and there are some new designs that have been added in the Sajou style.
