Description and Details
This unused antique Irish linen damask tablecloth is a standout example of elaborate Irish weaving. The damask design is large in scale and richly detailed, built around ivy leaves flowing through scrolling borders. Along the edges and corners, ivy trails across scrollwork to form a continuous decorative frame, while the centre is anchored by a wreath of scrolls threaded with ivy, creating a formal focal point. Smaller ivy motifs fill the space between border and centre, giving the whole cloth a balanced, highly decorative layout.
The cloth came to Penelope Textiles in unused condition and has not been re laundered. That means the weave remains crisp and the pattern definition sharp. As is common with unused antique linens that have been stored folded for decades, there are a couple of light storage marks visible in the photos. These are surface marks from storage rather than wear and should lift with a gentle soak and careful laundering.
Irish linen damask is prized for its soft sheen, strength, and the way woven patterns catch the light on a laid table. This piece is ideal for collectors of antique Irish table linen, for period home styling, or for special occasion dining where you want true heritage character. It also suits textile lovers who repurpose antique damask into restoration projects, cushion panels, framed pieces, or heirloom sewing, while preserving the story of the cloth. As a one of a kind unused antique, it offers both rarity and practical beauty.
