Description and Details
This beautiful pair of hand paired Sajou embroidery scissors were inspired by a collectors item with a story to tell.......
A pair of scissors had been made by a scissor maker for his true love. Her father delivered wood on his cart which was pulled by a donkey. The young man in question hoped to both flatter the father, and prove his skill as a scissor maker and his potential for being able to provide for the daughter before asking for her hand in marriage.
The scissors are beautifully made, they are hand paired and marked with the Sajou label along with a tassel in pink and fuschia. The scissors measure 12 cm long and come presented in a beautiful pale pink and fuschia box.
The scissors are made in France by craftsmen who are most often from a family tradition of scissor makers. Each blade has a number indicating that they have been hand paired and it can take up to twelve time served Scissor Makers to make each pair.
Sajou produce haberdashery items made in France to the highest standards (in some cases even produced on the original old machinery). Perfect for gifts and collectors, and for those of you unable to resist a quality that is seldom found in today's mass produced haberdashery products.
Sajou was created in 1828 by Jaques- Simon Sajou, selling haberdashery for embroidery, tapestry, lace, crochet and weaving. His pattern albums are sought after to this day by collectors worldwide. In 2005 the Sajou brand was purchased and revived by avid collector; Frederique Crestin- Billet. Many of the old designs have been faithfully reproduced and there are some new designs that have been added in the Sajou style.
I have other Sajou haberdashery items for sale in my shop so please do take the time to have a browse.
