Description and Details
This vintage hand painted Irish linen damask tablecloth is a rare and characterful piece of heritage table linen. The damask weave forms a subtle fruit ground across the cloth, while the decorative focus comes from hand painted fruit cartouches placed along the borders and corners, echoed by a larger central cartouche. A narrow scroll border frames the design, giving it a classic continental dining look with a playful, still life twist.
A special detail for collectors is the word ‘NAPLES’ woven into the edge of the cloth. Woven place names like this often indicate either a historic hotel, a regional commission, or a souvenir export line, and they add provenanced charm that is increasingly hard to find in vintage Irish damask. The combination of woven damask patterning and hand painted embellishment makes this cloth far more decorative than standard plain damask and perfect for display as well as use.
The cloth came to Penelope Textiles beautifully laundered and starched and has not been re laundered since, so it retains a crisp finish. Condition is noted as excellent on the page, making it ready for a dining table, special occasions, a styled interior shoot, or careful storage as a collectible textile. Sized at 187 x 227 cm (73.5 x 89.5 inches), it fits most large dining tables and also works well as a dramatic topper for sideboards or display tables.
Materials are confirmed as linen damask with hand painted detailing, a combination that offers both durability and the soft sheen Irish damask is known for. As a one of a kind vintage piece, it brings genuine history, artistry, and quiet luxury into any setting.
